Resumo
This work was carried out through investigative experiments combined with the theme of water in chemistry teaching, in a 1st year high school class at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte – IFRN, Currais Novos campus. There was like objective to investigate the issue of water and its treatment processes in the context of teaching Chemistry, focusing on the reality of the Seridó Potiguar region, and contextualizing the topic with its implications for the environment. It is commonly observed that water sources are being contaminated by the inadequate disposal of solid waste, requiring processes for water potability, as a possible solution, the use of of a homemade filter made from a pet bottle, this proposal has become a valuable tool for learning Chemistry in the classroom, as it offers several benefits. In first place, the creation of the homemade filter allows students to experiment and understand in a practice the concepts of water filtration and purification, which can be difficult to understand only through theoretical classes. Furthermore, the use of a PET bottle as material for the filter highlights the importance of sustainable and waste solutions, encouraging students to consider environmental preservation and the search for solutions that can be applied in life everyday. The activity can motivate students to become even more interested in the subject of Chemistry and deepen your knowledge, making learning more meaningful.
