ABSTRACT
This article investigates high school students' perception of scientific work, with a specific focus on a school in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte. To contextualize this analysis, the research is based on the study of the main philosophical currents that address the nature of science, expanding the understanding of how these philosophical conceptions impact the formation of students' views on the work of scientists. Furthermore, the crucial role of science education and the direct influence of the teacher in the construction of the image of the scientist in the perception of high school students is examined. The methodology adopted includes the application of a questionnaire divided into subjective parts, exploring open questions about scientific work and the nature of science, and objective parts, using a Likert questionnaire. Within the scope of this research, data collection was conducted with a sample consisting of 192 students. The in-depth analysis of the results offers valuable ideas about the understanding that students have about scientific activity, contributing significantly to the discussion about the formation of scientific conceptions in secondary education institutions.
