The present work discusses a perception about the historical and cultural
processes of indigenous people who traditionally occupy the space in the countryside. The
research subjects mentioned in this work are the indigenous community of Sagi-
“Countryside and water peoples”, namely native indigenous fishermen, farmers, collectors,
and artisans of the community. The aim of this research is to provoke a clear understanding
of who they are as a resistant people and how they can contribute to local education, being
knowledgeable of their tradition, their customs and way of fishing life. For education to be
recognized by law, it is necessary to approach the realities of this community, understanding
who they are, how the process of their own and ancestral education took place, how it resists until today. It is also inevitable to observe if the access to rights happens. Thus, traditional knowledge can be understood as a way of making evident the education of the countryside present there, and, consequently, learning from them, in addition to passing this knowledge on. This can be a way to advance an indigenous education to the following local generations and an instrument for a solid indigenous educational policy in Rio Grande do Norte.
