Resumo
The deficiency in the initial training of teachers who teach science in basic education is indicated by research as an issue to be overcome in the teaching of astronomy. This monograph deals with the continuing education of teachers through the study of pedagogical workshops. The general aim of this research is to assess the intention of teachers in continuing education, who are part of a postgraduate course in Science Teaching at IFRN-Campus Caicó, to incorporate the knowledge acquired in the workshops into their teaching practices. It is based on a number of relevant aspects, such as the importance of teaching astronomy, challenges in training science teachers and the need for continuing education. The typology of the research in question is qualitative-quantitative in its data, using action research as a methodological procedure, and its data collection is based on questionnaires (pre- and post-activities). The results show the heterogeneity of the participants, who recognize the importance of astronomy but face difficulties such as a lack of teaching materials and a lack of interest on the part of the astronomy teacher. However, the results also show an interest in educational workshops, including a preference for simpler models and easily accessible materials. This research has demonstrated the potential of astronomy teaching workshops as a tool for continuing teacher training.
