This work analyzes the use of cinema as a liberating educational praxis that overcomes the cultural
uprooting process in relation to teaching young people and adults. The methodology used took
place at first through bibliographical research by authors referring to the theme of young people and
adults, the relationship between cinema and youth and adult education, and the relationship between
cinema and cultural diversity. In the second moment, as it is also an exploratory-qualitative
research, a semi-structured interview was carried out with EJA teachers from the public network of
Rio Grande do Norte and its transcription. Then, the content analysis of the data was developed, in
which they were interpreted and analyzed to obtain the results. In this sense, it was possible to
establish that the use of cinema as an educational praxis in the context of diversity, overcomes the
capitalist perspective in which this expression is developed as entertainment and expands within a
phenomenological perspective that points to overcoming the process of cultural uprooting in
regarding the teaching of young people and adults.
