This article is about the Higher Education policy, focusing on the Electrical Engineering undergraduation course at Instituto Federal da Paraíba - IFPB, Campus João Pessoa. Two objectives orientate the discussion: investigating the creation of this course in 2007, taking the policies for education from the beginning of this century as reference, and analyzing the pedagogical project of the course, based on discussions about the necessity of a humanistic focus on the education of engineering students for the 21st century. Through bibliographical and documentary research, we noticed that little importance is given to human sciences in the program of Electrical Engineering Course at IFPB, although the pedagogical project of this course states its commitment to the formation of an engineer with a generalist, humanist, critical and reflective values.
