Scientific and technological advances are present throughout the social sphere, offering
contributions to society, but also losses. Considering these aspects, it is essential to discuss
science and technology in science teaching from a critical, dialogical and interdisciplinary
perspective, in order to enable a citizen education. Thus, this work is theoretical in nature,
weaving discussions about the implications of the use of socio-scientific issues with a CTS
focus as a strategy for promoting scientific and technological literacy. From the development of
this work and in view of the dialogues established between the authors, it became evident that
developing proposals in this area implies a certain complexity. However, it is noteworthy that
even in the face of challenges, this type of approach can cooperate significantly to science
teaching, contributing to the formation of individuals capable of discussing and making
decisions of a scientific-technological nature.
