Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is the most consumed vegetable in Brazil and in the
world. Climate adaptations made its cultivation possible, the commercial expansion and other
attributes of lettuce made it one of the favorite hardwoods of farmers. Climatic factors such as
temperature and luminosity can interfere in a beneficial or harmful way in the development of
lettuce, for example. Although this vegetable is cultivated in all Brazilian regions, there are
restrictions on its cultivation, either because of the high heat, as in the interior of the
northeastern hinterland, or because of the low temperature of the cold regions of our country,
due to the limitation of cultivation. in open field. In this wat, with the objective of evaluating
different crisp lettuce cultivars and cultivation environments, in an organic production system,
an experiment was carried out in a completely randomized complete blocks with four
repetitions, in a split-plot scheme, totaling six treatments. Plot treatments consisted of two
cultivation environments (covered area with 50% shading screen and open sky) and the subplots
consisted of three curly lettuce cultivars (Veneranda, Solaris and Ariel). The evaluated
characteristics were: number of leaves, plant height, plant diameter, fresh mass of shoots and
productivity. There was no significant interaction between the different growing environments
and crisp lettuce cultivars. Any of the evaluated cultivars can be planted in the two growing
environments, since the differences were not significant for most of the evaluated
characteristics.
