The premise for this work was the unsettling discrepancy in the number of female teachers within the Information Technology sector of the Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, which leads us to the question: How did this teachers managed to reach this area? Which were the hardships found in that journey? Understanding that gender is not something biologically defined, instead being a social construct, and that the profession choosing process is influenced by it, the present work has as its main objective understanding how the academic-professional trajectory influences in the choosing of the IT teaching profession within the IFRN. As to confirm the factuality of the low number of female teachers in the campi, an objetively quantitative research was made. After constating the hipotesis, five teachers, all which lectured IT classes within the IFRN Natal and Metropolitan Region Campi during the 2017.1 period were selected to be semi-structured comprehensively interviewed. In accordance with the theoretical referential to study subject and gender (GOES, 2000; BEAUVOIR, 2009), the Laurence Bardin content analysis method as described by Câmara (2013) was chosen for data analysis in this work. Results point towards the implication of gender prejudice as much in the choosing as in the permanence of women in IT´s academic and professional areas.
