The demographic growth driving the urbanization process and the increased construction
density, combined with global warming, have contributed to a higher consumption of electrical
energy. In this context, scenarios where the most used energy source for electricity production
still comes from fossil and non-renewable sources such as oil, coal, and natural gas tend to
generate significant environmental impacts. These issues have promoted a global trend of
energy efficiency labeling in buildings. In Brazil, a significant contribution to this topic was the
emergence of the Brazilian Building Labeling Program (PBE Edifica). The thermal
performance of buildings is directly related to the sustainable consumption of energy to
maintain the internal environment in a way that promotes the thermal comfort of building users.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) allows for the modeling of existing buildings (As Built
project) and the use of the model for thermal analysis. In this sense, the research aims to study
the contribution of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in energy analysis for existing
buildings, aligned with the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) targets 7.3 and
7a, and SDG 11. The method applied for the research development was bibliographic research,
and its operationalization was structured in the following steps: a) exploratory study (RSL and
literature review); b) experimental solution based on theory and prior knowledge (proposing a
process map and developing a manual). At the end of the research, the goal is to develop a
technical and technological product (PTT) in the form of a manual, aimed at professionals in
the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) field. The main objective of the manual
is to guide these professionals in the use of BIM for thermal analysis in existing buildings.
