Resumo
In recent decades, under the effects of climate change, the occurrence of heavy rainfall has gradually increased in various regions of Brazil and around the world, causing significant social, economic, and environmental damage to affected areas. In this context, the relationship between the intensity, duration, and frequency of these extreme precipitation events becomes essential for the development of engineering projects, as its application can mitigate various climate-related disasters caused by rainfall, such as floods, inundations, landslides, flash floods, and waterlogging. Based on this, the general objective of this study is to determine the design rainfall intensities for various municipalities in the Northeast, North, and South regions of Brazil, considering different return periods (1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 years) and rainfall durations of 5, 10, 15, 30, and 45 minutes, as well as 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 24 hours, for each return period. To achieve this, local parameters obtained through the Plúvio 2.1 software, developed by the Water Resources Research Group at the Federal University of Viçosa, were used. Currently, the Brazilian standard in force that establishes the criteria and requirements for stormwater drainage projects is ABNT NBR 10844 from 1989. However, this standard is based on data from a study conducted in 1957, using 98 pluviograph stations distributed across the country, making it outdated for the current context. Thus, this study aims to develop a more up-to-date and comprehensive database on heavy rainfall, including the automation of an Excel spreadsheet that provides information on rainfall intensity, as well as the IDF (IntensityDuration-Frequency) curves and equation for each analyzed location. Finally, the results obtained were considered satisfactory, as it was possible to compile a database of 987 municipalities, presented through tables and graphs. However, the need for further studies was identified.
