The quality of water in agricultural systems is of fundamental importance and its use must be rational. Water should be considered as an essential nutrient and when the quality used in animal nutrition is doubtful, it may interfere with zootechnical indexes, causing severe economic losses The objective of this research was to diagnose the importance of the quality of water that is offered to watering animals in rural communities in the municipality of Ipanguaçú / RN. The collections and analyzes were carried out monthly in drinking fountains in seven communities in the municipality of Ipanguaçú / RN. The parameters analyzed were: temperature, pH, conductivity and total dissolved solids, using a water quality multiparameter probe. The results showed that most of the parameters are in acceptable levels, except for the pH in the Olho D'água, Lagoa de Pedra and Pau de Jucá communities, which were indexed below what is recommended by the CONAMA Resolution, n 357/2005, as well as for the conductivity in the Eye water community. For the total solids in the physical base, Japiaçu and Itu community, the values are higher than allowed by CONAMA Resolution 357/2005. There is a need for constant management of water and drinking fountains, as well as keeping them clean and fresh.
