This study aimed to present and quantify the level of sustainability in school environments in
the city of Natal/RN. Faced with the various socio-environmental problems and the intense
exploitation of natural resources, it was understood that a change in society's behavior was
necessary, aiming at a new development model, requiring a change in habits, attitudes and
actions towards the construction of an environmentally fair and sustainable society. sustainable
for all, as indicated by the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Thus,
having schools as a fundamental point in this process. This is a descriptive and qualiquantitative research. Data collection was carried out through an online research script via
Google Forms and through the Matrix of Environmental Education Indicators developed by
Vieira, Torales-Campos, Morais (2016), making it possible to measure and understand how the
development of the Environmental Education (EA) and sustainability in the school
environment. The research shows that schools have been trying to insert environmental
education little by little in their Pedagogical Political Project (PPP) and in their curricular
matrix, but there is still a long way to go for schools so that EE is implemented in Management,
Curriculum and Physical Space of the school, so that it can be a Sustainable Educator Space
capable of providing students and the community with a space for awareness, sensitization and
socialization. For this study, a teaching guide aimed at sustainability at school was proposed
in order to help the pedagogical team, teachers and students in the development of actions and
practices aimed at sustainability in the school environment. It is concluded that, although there
are many challenges faced by schools to develop their day-to-day activities, it is necessary to
have an attentive and directed look at the development of environmental education in the school
curriculum in order to form more aware and critical citizens about the environmental issues
and to provide a more sustainable environment. The Matrix of Indicators and the proposed
didactic guide can be important tools to help schools in the formation and construction of a
Sustainable School, serving as a sustainability reference for society.
