Gídeo véio vive em nós! Experiências coletivas na revitalização de um museu quilombola no Rio Grande do Norte

Abstract

The struggle of quilombola communities includes the protection of their cultural values and traditions. The quilombola leaders of Serra da Gameleira (São Tomé - RN) have sought to build spaces that allow for the dissemination and appreciation of local culture. Indeed, the objective of this article is to present the results of the project: Social Museology and Installation of the Quilombola Community Museum “Gidio Véio”. The research was motivated by heritage actions developed by a quilombola leadership. Thus, we present the results of a project carried out during the year 2021. We have chosen social museology as a theoretical-methodological reference (CHAGAS et al.,2018). Its lenses have allowed usto carry out three main actions: developing a process of community awareness about the museum equipment, conducting research through collective inventory, and launching the exhibition “Gídeo véio lives in us”. Thus, we think that the Quilombola Museum doe s gather and protect heritage assets, symbolic places, and elements of the collective memory of the community. It also guarantees the right to patrimonial citizenship (LIMA FILHO, 2015), we must say.
