In order to expand the visibility and dissemination of academic and scientific output, some educational institutions started to make use of Institutional Repositories (IR), technological tools that emerged from the global movement of open access to scientific information. This work presents as object of study the scenario of Repositories implementation in the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology (IF) with a timeframe up to May 2020. This is a qualitative bibliographic and descriptive research. A mapping was carried out to identify which IF had an Institutional Repository. The data collection happened by consulting institutional websites, sending emails
to the group of librarians of the Brazilian Network of Federal Institutes and collecting information through the Electronic System of the Citizen Information Service (e-SIC). It was found that of the 38 institutions surveyed 15 already have an Institutional Repository and another 15 are in the implementation phase. The results show that the implementation of repositories in FIs still needs to advance significantly to provide greater visibility to their academic, technical, and scientific productions.
