The National System of Conservation Units (SNUC) was implemented by law n. 9.985 / 2000,
it is composed of two categories: Integral Protection and Sustainable Use Units. This research
deals with a protected area of sustainable use, specifically APA Piquiri-Una (APAPU), which
is an integral part of the CUs, whose objective is to verify the actions related to public use for
tourism and recreational purposes in the meetings of its management council, relating them to
the assumptions of the Management Plan, which is a document that consists of establishing
norms, actions and restrictions of use. The study is based on the definitions of public use,
SNUC, APA and Environmental Education (EA), in order to base the documentary analysis of
it, as the main research strategy. The methodology of the research had a qualitative analysis of
the minutes of the 11th to the 23rd meeting of the managing council, comprising the period
between 2013 to 2016, in order to diagnose various information relevant to the management of
the protected area in question, especially the actions of EA, these are important for the
development of public use for tourism purposes. In the results, it was found that, in the ordinary
meetings (ROs) of the management council, there were no discussions or actions on public use
for tourism purposes in APAPU. It was concluded that it is necessary to engage the management
council, the community and visitors in the management of public use. This will enable
awareness and efficiency in the management of EA actions and public use.
