The objective of this article is to evaluate the theoretical potential of biogas production and the consequent conversion to electric energy from organic waste from the Rio Grande do Norte S/A Supply Center (CEASA-RN), having as methodology the proposed by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA), as well as techniques explored in scientific articles. The data are from the survey conducted by the Foundation for Support for Education and Technological Development of RN, from where it was possible to extract data and thus theoretically evaluate the potential of biogas generation of the organic fraction of solid waste generated there. It is noteworthy that today in Brazil biogas production represents less than 1% of our energy matrix, according to National Agency of Electric Energy (ANEEL). The biogas production process follows its own dynamics, being produced in the total absence of oxygen, through anaerobic degradation in appropriate reactors. The amount of waste from CEASA-RN is small but sufficient to justify the feasibility study of biogas production.
