Resumo
The conventional model of agricultural production has generated negative effects for society. The aim of the present study was to identify the impacts of pesticides on farmers' health and the environment in the Baldum and Physical Base communities in the municipality of Ipanguaçu / RN. The qualitative methodology was used, based on the application of semistructured questionnaires to farmers and consultation of SINAN (National System of Medical Care) and SINITOX (Toxic-Farcological Information System) databases. Based on the data from the questionnaires applied, it was possible to observe that the farmers used agrochemicals not recommended for corn, pepper and tomato crops. In addition, incorrect disposal of packaging, which is burned, buried and thrown away, as well as incomplete and inappropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has been identified. In this situation, clinical signs of dizziness (34%), vomiting (15%), sneezing (14%), itching (14%) and others (25%) were reported by rural farmers. In view of this scenario, some measures are necessary to ensure that these impacts are mitigated, such as: the complete use of PPE, efficient inspection by the competent authorities, correct disposal of pesticide packaging, technical assistance to farmers, On the correct use of these chemicals, as well as provide information on agroecological and / or organic practices, in order to improve the quality of life of workers and the environment in which they live.
