The environmental problems caused by man's actions, coupled with the growth of the
urban population, have aroused concern in society, in the sense of looking for built
environments whose constructive characteristics aim to meet the criteria of
sustainability in buildings, requiring professionals working in the field of Architecture,
Engineering and Construction, design practices aimed at meeting this demand.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is one of the different technologies applied in the
architecture and engineering industry that allows a virtual model of a building to be
created, with which it is possible to analyze, throughout the design process, the
functionality and performance of the construction elements chosen during this process,
identifying the most appropriate solution to obtain a more sustainable result. In this
sense, this research aims to demonstrate how modeling using BIM technology can
contribute as a tool to assist in this analysis during the development of architectural
projects, with a focus on solutions that seek the sustainability of buildings, in line with
the goals of ODS 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities and ODS 9 - Industry,
Innovation and Infrastructure. The method applied in the design of this research was
Design Science Research (DSR), following the following stages: a) Awareness of the
problem; b) Suggestion; c) Development of the artifact; d) Evaluation of the artifact; e)
Conclusion. At the end of this research, a technical technological product of the
Manual/ Protocol type was developed, in which the proposed method was presented
in order to help professionals working on architectural projects to choose sustainability
criteria to be adopted in their design practices, associated with the use of BIM
technology as a simulation and analysis tool. This method has been graphically
represented using a process map and will be presented to professionals through a
guide booklet produced as a way of arousing their interest in finding constructive
solutions for their projects that emphasize the importance and necessity of creating
more sustainable built spaces.
