The selective extraction of quartz from pegmatitic bodies is used in several markets. Company in the process of implantation in Rio Grande do Norte aims to produce quartz for export with the objective of reaching the European market of silestones. This is used in civil construction in several applications, from sinks, benches, among others. The quartz was submitted to comminution process in a crushing plant with products in the specified granulometry. Due to the great abrasion of the quartz, it is generated contaminants coming from the processes of comminution. This work was
carried out from a sample of 150 kg, which were submitted to processes similar to those carried out by the industry, in order to quantify and characterize the contaminants. These were characterized, the composition of the contaminating species being identified by mineralogical analysis (DR-X). The samples were classified by mesh in order to verify the concentration of the contaminant, as well as the identification of the best conditions for its separation in a high field magnetic separator. The extraction process was compatible with market demand.
