This article is the result of a master's dissertation in environmental sciences, and focuses on the study of the sustainability of banana tree production agroecosystems in the Açu Valley region, from the point of view of the Management Systems Evaluation Framework Incorporating Sustainability Indicators (MESMIS). The objective of this work was to evaluate the sustainability of two agroecosystems, making a comparative study banana tree the alternative and conventional banana systems. Data were obtained from semi-structured interviews and observations, so that the systematizations and considerations performed by the interviewees were considered for the determination of the MESMIS steps. From this, it can be concluded that the banana production of the alternative agroecosystem is more sustainable than the conventional one, since the former presented a desired sustainability situation, while the latter gave priority to productivity, thus neglecting to the detriment of the dimensions of social and environmental sustainability.
