<title>Enchentes em Alto do Rodrigues-RN ocorridas durante os anos 2008/2009: gestão de risco, impactos e memória social</title>
<link>http://memoria.ifrn.edu.br/handle/1044/3307</link>
<description>Enchentes em Alto do Rodrigues-RN ocorridas durante os anos 2008/2009: gestão de risco, impactos e memória social
Alto do Rodrigues, a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, experienced extreme flooding events between 2008 and 2009. The region's topographical characteristics, combined with weather patterns that favor intense and prolonged rainfall, contribute significantly to the occurrence of floods affecting both the population and local infrastructure. Consequently, rainwater accumulates in urban and rural areas, causing inundations that compromise the safety and quality of life of residents. Regarding infrastructure, these events can cause severe damage to roads, bridges, and buildings, resulting in financial losses for both the public sector and the population. Furthermore, the floods cause significant losses in agriculture, one of the region's primary economic activities. In this context, preventing future flooding episodes in Alto do Rodrigues poses a major challenge, requiring integrated action from local authorities, water resource management specialists, and the community at large. Adopting medium- and long-term strategies is essential to mitigate these events, ensuring a better quality of life for the population and reducing damage to public and private assets. The study’s objectives were met by highlighting the impacts of the 2008/2009 floods in Alto do Rodrigues. The methodology adopted—based on historical analyses and climate data—yielded consistent results revealing significant damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and the population's quality of life. The conclusions pointed to the need for integrated public policies and medium- to long-term strategies. Thus, the final remarks emphasize that this work does not merely describe a past event but contributes to developing solutions aimed at preventing future episodes, thereby ensuring greater safety and well-being for the community.

Biology teaching requires strategies that promote students’ active participation and the articulation of scientific knowledge with everyday situations. In this context, this study investigated the perceptions of second-year students in Integrated High School Education at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte, Macau Campus, regarding the contributions of an Investigative Teaching Sequence (ITS) to learning about protozoan diseases. The research was characterized as applied and descriptive, with a convergent mixed-methods approach and an intervention research design, involving 36 students aged 15 to 19 years. The intervention was developed over eight classes, organized into three stages: problematization and contextualization, knowledge systematization, and deepening, and included case studies, a reading circle, a mind map, and a thematic classroom on amoebiasis, Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, toxoplasmosis, and trichomoniasis. Data were collected through a mixed questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. The results indicated a predominantly positive evaluation of the proposal, with the thematic classroom standing out as the most significant stage of the sequence, students recognizing greater protagonism, and the contextualization of protozoan diseases with public health being identified as the main contribution of the intervention. It is concluded that the ITS promoted active student participation, contextualization of scientific knowledge, and an approximation between Biology teaching and public health issues, demonstrating its potential as a pedagogical strategy for secondary education.

This work aims to analyze the concept of galactic habitability in the Milky Way,&#13;
emphasizing the influence of the massive variation of stellar bodies and their proximity&#13;
as determining factors for the existence and maintenance of potentially habitable&#13;
environments. The study is bibliographically situated within the field of astrobiology, an&#13;
interdisciplinary science that investigates the conditions necessary for the emergence of&#13;
life at different cosmic scales. Starting from the notion of a planetary habitable zone, the&#13;
work expands the scope of the analysis to the galactic context, considering factors such&#13;
as stellar density, radiation, and orbital dynamics. In the inner portions of the galactic&#13;
disk, close to the nucleus, a high concentration of massive stars, a higher rate of&#13;
supernovae, and intense emission of gamma radiation and cosmic rays are observed&#13;
conditions that tend to make these regions hostile to the stability of planetary systems and&#13;
the preservation of atmospheres. On the other hand, data shows that more distant, but not&#13;
extremely dispersed, regions tend to present less risk to the stability of planets and moons.&#13;
Thus, the research shows how the distance and density between stellar bodies become&#13;
critical parameters: very dense regions increase the risk of gravitational disturbances and&#13;
destructive events, while very dispersed regions reduce the probability of planetary&#13;
formation.
