<summary type="text">Elementos estruturantes para a infraestrutura organizacional dos repositórios institucionais dos Institutos Federais brasileiros
The Institutional Repositories (IR) are strategies of the Open Access movement in favor of the democratization of knowledge. The thesis research aims to recommend structural elements for the organizational infrastructure of the Institutional Repositories (IR) of the Federal Institutes of Professional, Scientific, and Technological Education (IF). To this end, it had the following specific objectives: a) to synthesize the literature regarding the necessary recommendations for the&#13;
organizational infrastructure of institutional repositories; b) to conduct a situational diagnosis of the IRs of the IFs; and c) to highlight the interrelationships between the systemic strategic areas of the Institutes and the repository. Methodologically, it is classified as descriptive and exploratory in terms of purpose, but applied in nature, using procedures such as bibliographic and documentary research. It is characterized as a qualitative approach, and for a better analysis of the issues, it uses content analysis based on Bardin (2011). With the literature review assisted by an Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, 47 scientific articles collected from databases (Scopus, Web of Science, and Library,  nformation Science &amp; Technology Abstracts) were analyzed. The study identifies the organizational infrastructure for institutional repositories, according to the scientific field, in 4 dimensions: 1) Governance; 2) Institutional Policies; 3) Human Resources; and 4) Financial Resources. In the mapping of the 38 Federal Institutes, based on the analysis of Institutional Development Plans (PDI), General Regulations, and Institutional Information Policies, the investigation identified the existence of 29 institutional repositories linked to federal institutions. It points out that the governance of IRs is based on committees, decentralized, and with low formalization of management functions and&#13;
responsibilities. It shows that the repositories are operating without regulations but are frequently linked to libraries and librarians. The research also reveals that only a few Institutes are allocating financial resources to the repository. Nine strategic areas that make up the institutions were observed, and interrelationships between these areas and the institutional repository were established. Structural elements were proposed with actions connected to the 4 dimensions of organizational infrastructure for the repositories of the Federal Institutes. It is concluded that by enabling connections between the repository and the institution, the democratization of&#13;
knowledge is promoted, and Open Access is strengthened.

<summary type="text">Concepções de formação profissional técnica de nível médio adotadas pelo IFRN: especificidades e (des)continuidades
The thesis deals with the concepts of technical training of middle level adopted by the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN). Discusses these concepts from the four political-pedagogical projects built in the period 1970 to 2010, spanning three institutionalities: Federal Technical School of Rio Grande do Norte (1970-1998), Federal Center of Technological Education of Rio Grande do Norte (1999-2008) and IFRN (from 2008) as well as three important political contexts of the country: Civil-Military Dictatorship, New Republic and Period of neoliberal ideas in Brazil. The goal is to analyze the configuration of the conceptions of training adopted in the political-pedagogical projects IFRN, with emphasis on the specificities and (dis) continuities, placing them in the context of political, economic and educational change in development in the country. Addresses the relationship work, education and human development in capitalist society, in order to grasp the concept of employee training engendered by that company as well as the possibility of a counter-hegemonic formation. We analyze the formation of mid-level concepts outlined in the educational reforms implemented in the country. We investigate the concepts of training outlined in the political-pedagogical projects IFRN. Makes use of the historical-dialectical materialism, the literature review, the documentary research and interviews were conducted with subjects who participated in the working group coordinator of the drafting of the political-institutional educational projects. The results show that the training of workers in capitalist society has a unilateral character; that the training required by the working class is the omnilateral training; that the formative ideas that permeated the educational reforms in the country between 1970 and 2010 were all envisaged by unilateral training; that, in certain contexts, conceptions of technical training medium level outlined in the political-pedagogical projects IFRN reflect the formative perspectives that guide educational reforms in the country (unilateral training) and, at other times, the institution adopts concepts (training omnilateral) that are not consistent with such prospects; and that between the political-pedagogical projects built from 1970 to 2010 there are more continuities than breaks in relation to the concepts of training adopted. We conclude that the challenge is to institutionalize the IFRN their educational actions omnilateral designing training undertaken in the political-pedagogical project 2009.

<summary type="text">Proposta de tecnologia para controle de velocidade de PIGs instrumentados utilizando lógica Fuzzy
The speed control of smart PIGs is necessary, in oil and gas industry, for allow a&#13;
better and safer pipeline inspection. This is possible when those smart it PIGs maintain&#13;
a low speed while performs a pipeline inspection, in the search for defects as corrosion,&#13;
cracks and dents. Our objective propose a technology for speed control of smart pigs&#13;
using a by-pass valve triggered by a solenoid. This valve is able to control the pressure&#13;
differential applied in PIG’s body. Once we control the pressure differential, it is possible&#13;
to control the speed of this PIG. A experimental benchmark was mounted in reduced&#13;
scale for simulation of the PIG speed excursion situation and acceleration suffered by the&#13;
PIGs. The experimental benchmark allowed to studying the reactions of the upstream and&#13;
downstream pressure over the by-pass valve.The Fuzzy logic was used for determine the&#13;
opening and closing period this valve to control pressure differential. The experimental&#13;
tests show substantial reduction in pressure differential value over PIG after happening&#13;
speed excursion. Also, the time necessary for the pressure differential go to maximum and&#13;
returns to default reference value. The results obtained allow conclude which is possible&#13;
to controlling pressure differential applied in PIG, thus also the speed, using Fuzzy logic,&#13;
acting opening and closing period of proposed by-pass valve.

<summary type="text">Estudo do conceito de serendipidade como base para novas abordagens ao problema da convergência prematura
In the literature, it is common to find many engineering problems which are used to present the&#13;
effectiveness of the optimization algorithms. Several methods of Bio-Inspired Computing have&#13;
been proposed as a solution in different contexts of engineering problems. Among these methods,&#13;
there is a class of algorithms known as Swarm Intelligence. Despite the relative success, most of&#13;
these algorithms faces a common problem known as premature convergence. It occurs when a&#13;
swarm loses its ability to generate diversity and consequently converges to a suboptimal solution&#13;
prematurely. There are several approaches proposed to solve this problem. This doctoral thesis&#13;
proposes a new approach based on a concept called serendipity. It is usually applied in the field&#13;
of Recommender Systems. To validate the feasibility of adapting this concept to the new context,&#13;
a variant called Serendipity-Based Particle Swarm Optimization (SBPSO) has been implemented&#13;
considering two dimensions of serendipity: chance and sagacity. To evaluate the presented proposal,&#13;
two sets of computer experiments were performed. Sixteen reference functions which are&#13;
common in the evaluation of optimization algorithms were used. In the first set of experiments,&#13;
four functions were used to compare SBPSO to Particle Swarmoptimization (PSO) and some literature variants. In the second ones, twelve other functions were used, but for high dimensionality&#13;
and a larger number of evaluations of the objective function. In all experiments, the results of the&#13;
SBPSO were promising and presented a good convergence behaviour with regard to: a) quality of&#13;
the solution, b) ability to find the global optimum, c) stability of solutions and d) ability to resume&#13;
the swarmmovement after stagnation has been detected.
