This article takes part in the Postgraduate studies in Professional Education
Program of the Federal Institute of Education Science and Technology of Rio Grande
do Norte and aims to comprehend the historical setting of the Professional Education
(EP) as a scientific field starting from the analysis of articles of the Brazilian authors
in national and international scientific journals. Therefore, it does mapping yields on
the Capes Journal Gateway available until 2014, identifies the authors and the
scientific journals which publish in the EP field and goes along with the analysis of
the thematic associations leading to understanding of the scientific field configuration.
On its based is found the discussion about scientific field starting from understanding
of Bourdieu (1994, 2004) declaring itself as a universe with a separated and
autonomous logic, building a social world with relation of power and argument ones.
On its base is also found the discussion of configuration from Elias´ point of view
(1970) recognized as a dialectical movement of the reality built by interdependencies
of individuals who are interpenetrate each other. It is featured as a survey research
and has an exploratory nature using quantitative and qualitative approaches. Its
metric study is applied by Bibliometry to check the trends and the growth of
knowledge in the field and the content analysis is based in Bardin (2011) with the
categorical technique to describe the content of the productions. For Data processing
the software of qualitative analysis NVivo has been used. The results obtained the
main researchers of the field and their choice for research in co-authorship which
composes a cooperation network between them, justified by formal air that enable a
chain of relationship between the authors. It shows that the publishing are
concentrated in few scientific journals even though it shows high and opposite
dispersal index. It introduces seven thematic categories established through the main
subjects for the researchers, such as Professional Education for Health, Education
and Job, Teacher Training, Curriculum, Public Policy and PROEJA. It explains about
subclause in the thematic category. Thus the investigations implemented in the
research provided production analysis and propagation of the scientific knowledge
about EP, contributing to comprehension of the field configuration of Professional
Education in Brazil.
