Adult and Youth Education (YAE) aims to ensure access to education for those who couldn't
do so at the appropriate age, in accordance with Article 37 of the Law of Guidelines and Bases
of Education (LDB) 9.394. Despite being a guaranteed right under the law, YAE faces several
obstacles in its implementation. One of the difficulties is the concentration of educational
processes for young and adult learners within the regular school model, with its well-defined
schedules and spaces. Another challenge is the lack of infrastructure, resources, and, above all,
instructional material that takes into account the experiences, interests, and expectations of adult
learners enrolled in YAE. Thus, this project aims to develop a didactic unit focused on teaching
chemistry in YAE, with a particular emphasis on chemical reactions, based on a topic that is
quite common in the daily lives of many people: the use of cleaning products and their
indiscriminate mixtures. This research emerged from the extension project: Production of
Chemistry Instructional Material for Adult and Youth Education (YAE) offered by
PROEX/IFRN Campus Pau dos Ferros. The instructional material was developed based on a
preliminary analysis of a group of students enrolled in YAE, taking into account the historical,
sociocultural, and educational context. After its development, the material was analyzed by a
group of teachers working in YAE to obtain their impressions regarding the applicability of the
didactic unit in YAE. As a result, it was found that the use of the instructional material in the
classroom demonstrated its contribution to meaningful student learning. The analysis carried
out by the teachers allowed for an evaluation of the material's effectiveness and the
identification of necessary adjustments to meet the specific needs of YAE students, thereby
directing improvements for its application. This initiative aims to promote inclusive and quality
education, empowering adult learners to develop skills and knowledge relevant to their daily
lives and future academic and professional opportunities.
