In view of the difficulty of studying and learning sciences, which often seems to be something distant from reality, this paper aims to report the vision of a preceptor teacher of the Pedagogical Residency Program (PRP) on the importance of meaningful learning and the use of symbols as facilitators of learning and thus analyze the influence of the use of images in promoting meaningful learning on the topic Bacteria and Cyanobacteria. The nature of the academic work and the methodology used was qualitative, descriptive and based on theoretical references in the field of Ausubel's Meaningful Learning Theory and Semiotics described by Lucia Santaella (1983) and Lucia Santaella and Widried Noth (2015), which bring us important ideas and methodologies for the formation of the educator. Therefore, it can be observed that the discussion about new methodologies in teaching is relevant. However, the use of new methodologies in the discipline of science makes the relationship between teachers of basic education and professors of the academia transcend the walls of the school and classroom, contributing to learning, both in the school space and in the continuing education of teachers and professors. Making use of images to promote meaningful learning brought the students closer to the subject and made teaching more promising in order to show that meaningful learning through images as subsuming elements collaborates to an eminently meaningful learning.
