This research lectures about the teaching work and had as goal to analyze if the working
conditions of chemistry teachers at the state secondary schools in Currais Novos/RN favor the
teaching profession valorization. The research was carried out in 2016 in five secondary
schools in the city of Currais Novos / RN, namely: Escola Estadual Instituto Vivaldo Pereira
(IVP), Escola Estadual Capitão Mor Galvão (CMG), Escola Estadual Tristão de Barros
(ETB), Escola Estadual Doutor Sílvio bezerra de melo (SBM) and Escola Estadual Manuel
Salustino (EMS). The work is part of a qualitative, descriptive approach; where the research
instruments used for data collection were questionnaires with the professors responsible for
the chemistry subject matter at each school, observations within the laboratories, whereupon
we had characterized the laboratories using MEC’s parameters with the aid of Cruz (2009),
and Polato’s (2011). The analysis of the data showed that although the teacher valorization
refers to factors such as the period reserved for studies, planning, included in the workload
and adequate conditions; These items are not reaching your real goal. Major responsibilities
were extended to teachers from the 90s to the present years without any concern about the
conditions under which these teachers would carry out their activities. Regarding working
conditions, most of them were dissatisfied with the laboratory conditions of their eventual
schools, they emphasize that investments in both glassware and in the physical structure of
laboratories need to be reviewed, they also report how much they feel unmotivated to carry
out activities Practices due to the absence of equipment, and their precariousness. Some
teachers declare that they lack the support and encouragement of their colleges, emphasizing
that this support would be of great importance for them to be motivated to carry out practical
activities, thus making teaching more effective and attractive for both teachers and students.
Thus, it is concluded that the conditions found do not favor or fully value teachers due to lack
of laboratories, some laboratories in terms of equipment and materials have a good amount,
more in bad quality, more in poor quality, turning their attention to their physical structure is
observed the insecurity, the precariousness that these environments is, thus hindering the
development of good practical classes, harming the growth and appreciation of the professor
of chemistry, since This environment is fundamental for teachers in this area of education.
