A vegetable garden is an area, usually of small extension, where the cultivation activity of the
most diverse agricultural crops, such as vegetables, ornamental plants, can be performed,
subjected to an intensive management of production. The objective of this work was to
evaluate the implementation of vegetable gardens in different didactic uses against two
perspectives of different levels of education: vocational education and early childhood
education. In professional education, the vegetable garden was used for the implementation
and management practices seen in the classroom in the discipline of Olericulture and
Medicinal Plants of the undergraduate course in Technology in Agroecology of the Federal
Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do North - IFRN, Campus
Ipanguaçu. In environmental education, the flowerbeds were used as a didactic tool for the
contact with the living beings and foods that are produced there to promote environmental
awareness of the students of the municipal school of the kindergarten (Jardim II) of the
Vereador Municipal School. João Medeiros Lopes in Itajá/RN. In both places where the
gardens were implanted, semi-structured questionnaires were applied and after tabulating
these data it was possible to conclude that for elementary school the garden had the objective
of environmental awareness and education, while for the professional level students it served
as technical training. future Agroecologists in training. Therefore, the implementation of
vegetable gardens is an active teaching methodology that can be used at different levels of
education and for different purposes.
