A relevância do planejamento e gestão de turismo no município de Pedro Velho/RN : Uma análise sobre as ações do poder público local

Abstract

The work has as its theme tourism planning and management, issues of great importance for the municipalities that have tourism potential to be developed. The present study is the result of a research that aimed to analyze the relevance given to tourism planning and management in the city of Pedro Velho / RN. To obtain the necessary theoretical basis, the study first sought information regarding the importance of tourism planning and public management of tourism. Then, for the methodological procedures, this study has a descriptive-exploratory research, of a qualitative nature. Thus, for the purpose of data collection, the interview form was used as a research tool, applied to 3 respondents, who were the tourism secretaries of the city of Pedro Velho / RN in the period corresponding to the years of 2017 to 2020. The application of which was carried out online, through the digital platform (Google Meet). To analyze the data, the technique of content analysis was used since all open questions required a certain depth in the treatment of the data. What made it possible to obtain answers, allowing to outline the profile of the managers, to understand if they had knowledge about the theme and to analyze how their activities occurred when they were tourism managers in the city surveyed. As a result of the study, it can be identified that all managers have only completed high school, only one of the managers has a certain understanding of what tourism planning is; when asked what were their main functions in the tourism office, everyone informed that it was the maintenance of the tourist spots in general, therefore, there was not a team prepared to think about tourism and carry out its actions, since the team that contributed to the tourism secretariat was made up of people who took care of cleaning the spaces. One of the possible conclusions of this study was the understanding about the functioning of the tourism department of the city of Pedro Velho / RN, especially, that the managers' lack of preparation in terms of planning and management are below what is expected when the subject is the development of tourism activity.
