The formation of an ecological conscience and the obligation to preserve the environment, have
generated the development of new methods for obtaining natural products, without causing
damage to the environment, in view of the possibility of alternative control. Among the
compounds of natural origin are cinnamic acid and its derivatives, which are easily found in
fruits, flowers and vegetables. It has been explored due to its wide diversity in biological
activities such as, antimicrobial and antifungal, antitumor activity against malignant human
tumors, among others. In order to obtain these products in a way that does not harm the
environment, the use of biocatalysts has been a clean alternative. And the application of
enzymes as catalysts in chemical syntheses has gained great prominence in recent years, since
its use has been promising and considered a clean source for the environment due to stimulating
technological development with the use of renewable raw materials and with environmental
preservation. Therefore, this work aims to synthesize, characterize and optimize the reaction
conditions in the esterification of cinnamic acid, with the use of enzymatic catalysis. In this
context, the results obtained indicate a great potential for the use of biocatalysts in the synthesis
of esters, highlighting the enzyme lipase B of Candida antarctica (CALB), which reached values
above 70%. In addition, the chromatogram analyzes indicated hexane as a good solvent for this
type of reaction and the most appropriate molar ratio of 0.1: 0.5. Therefore, this work
demonstrated the best conditions for the synthesis of esters.
