Cultural tourism is a segment that, when properly planned, can enhance local
traditions. However, in Praia da Pipa, a district of Tibau do Sul, the rapid growth of mass
tourism has led to the gradual disappearance of stories and experiences shared by local
residents, compromising the preservation of intangible heritage and local cultural identity. In
this context, this study aims to analyze how the stories told by residents can act as a tool for
the appreciation of cultural tourism and the local community. The research adopts a qualitative
approach, based on bibliographic review and analysis of oral narratives related to traditions,
festivals, cultural manifestations, and the ways of life of the native population. The results
indicate that local stories constitute an important intangible heritage that is still insufficiently
integrated into tourism activities, and that their appreciation can contribute to the
diversification of the destination, the strengthening of community identity, and the promotion
of more sustainable cultural tourism.
